Kurdish National Congress of North America

Kurdish National Congress of North America
(KNC)
The Kurdish National Congress is a Kurdish advocacy group of Kurdish professionals living mainly in the United States and also in Canada. It was created in 1989. It seeks peacefully to achieve a united, free Kurdistan and holds an annual conference. Since its creation, the KNC has played an important role in publicizing and promoting the Kurdish cause in the United States. The KNC has particularly close relations with the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in Iraqi Kurdistan. Past presidents have been Kirmanj Gundi, Fouad Darweesh, Najmaldin Karim, Hikmat Kikrat, and Asad Khailany. Dr. Kamal Artin was elected as the new president in June 2010. The KNC maintains a website at www.kncna.net.KURDISHMEDIA.COM. Over the past decade a vast range of independent and official Kurdish websites have emerged. This important phenomenon is partially reflected by the section on websites at the end of this historical dictionary's extended bibliography. Kurdish-media.com is possibly the best of the independent websites. It was established on 4 August 1998 and provides news and information about the Kurds and Kurdistan. It has several million hits per month. Rebar Fatah is the director and co-founder of the website, and Pe-shraw Namo is the Webmaster and other co-founder. Peyamner.com and Kurdishaspect.com are two other important independent Kurdish websites.
